Lots of beginners completed their first triathlon in 2009.
That was wonderful because the mission of the Sharp Triathlon
Team is to promote health and wellness. When a beginner joins
the team, that demonstrates an individual’s desire to practice
a healthy lifestyle. Our team member list nearly doubled this
year.
We also debuted our flashy new team uniforms. These custom sublimated tri tops,
tri bottoms, bike shorts and bike jerseys were an instant hit. In bright yellow
and Sharp blue colors, Sharp and all our sponsors were prominently displayed.
Now everyone can see a Sharp team member coming down the road! Thanks to Verge
Sport out of New York for helping us upgrade our style.
The team also picked up several new key sponsors. Our web page manager, Jeri
LaMay from Dolphmera Solutions came on as a sponsor. Catherine Yavorsky from
Catherine Yavorsky Photography joined us as well. She captured several events
on film which we later used for several projects. A great on-line retailer,
SwimOutlet.com also supported us as sponsors by giving team members a large
merchandise donation. Finally, a large and prominent San Diego law firm, Procopio,
Cory, Hargreaves and Savitch became a team sponsor in 2009.
As in previous years, we had a group of team members attend the Sharp Rehabilitation
Hospital celebration entitled, “Victories of Spirit.” It’s such a wonderful
and inspiring event that makes us all celebrate our God-given abilities.
We added a couple of weekly standing bike and run workouts. Hosted by Curtis
Carlson, Mark Keeney and Debbie Hoffman, these sessions provided team members
some additional training (and social!) options. The groups met at Fiesta Island
and Penasquitos Canyon.
Steve Peace was our inaugural participant in our mentor program. Steve suffered
a massive stroke but was still able to complete his first triathlon in 2009
with the help of his mentor, Luvern Catibog. Great job guys.
We wrapped up the year by making a commemorative team DVD. Film producer Eric
Yandoc compiled an amazing 20 minute film that is entertaining, motivating
and simply just wonderful to watch. Contact Russ Reinbolt, Marna Morimoto or
Melissa Minjarez if you would like a copy.
